La Shone ha Qodesh | The Holy Language: The Basics
by Alan Horvath
You may be surprised to know that many people are not aware that the Bible was originally written in Aramaic/Hebrew. The fact is that the Word was not, at the outset, written in King James' English ... nor was it initially penned in Latin ... and not even in Greek, as many insist was the language used in the creation of the New Testament books. The simple truth is this: All the Father's Word, from Genesis all the way through Revelation, was breathed into existence by His Holy Spirit - His Ruach ha Qodesh - and written down by His Spirit-filled, inspired and chosen servants ... in Aramaic/Hebrew.
Throughout all of history, it has always been counted as nothing less than absolute blasphemy to speak any language in the Temple other than Aramaic/Hebrew. And knowing this fact ... who in their right mind would ever think that His chosen servants would ever consider, even for one brief moment, to write His inspired Word down in anything but Aramaic/Hebrew?
Another obvious and very powerful point to make concerning this issue, is the event that took place at the Tower of Babel - recorded in chapter eleven of Genesis:
Verse 1: All the earth had one language and one speech ...
Verse 9: It's name was called Babel, because there YHWH confused the language of all the earth, and from there YHWH scattered them over the face of all the earth.
Genesis 11:4 reveals that the people of that time were not interested in reaching Heaven, but were interested in defying Heaven; defying the Father's instruction to inhabit the earth. In Deuteronomy 32:8-9 we see that the Father divorced Himself from everyone on earth - except for Israel. In Ugaritic (ancient Syrian) literature, the number of the children of Elohim (noted in Deuteronomy 32:8) is seventy - the same number of nations that are outlined in Genesis 10 and these are the same children of Elohim (the Nephilim) that are seen as being judged in Psalm 82:1-8.
In the book of Revelation, Babylon is described this way:
... upon her forehead a name written, a secret: BABEL THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE WHORES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. - Revelation 17:5
Going back to the event in Genesis 11 ... after divorcing Himself from everyone, Abba Father gave them over to seventy Nephilim (fallen angels) and seventy unholy languages. And consequently, in Genesis 12, we see Him beginning His work with Abraham ... who spoke the Father's Aramaic/Hebrew language ... to eventually establish His own chosen nation: Israel.
So ... What's the Point?
The point is that, since the Father is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow ... and since we know that His heart was - and therefore still is and always will be - expressed through His original language of Aramaic/Hebrew ... we should do everything we can to understand Him in The Way that makes our hearts one with His. This is something which may be accomplished in two very simple ways:
1. Develop the practice of discovering the Aramaic/Hebrew words which were originally written, and which present the key points of any verse(s) we are seeking a greater understanding of.
2. Develop an understanding of the Aramaic/Hebrew mindset that was common to the people of the day - people like Abraham, Isaac, and Israel - and, most importantly, learning to know the mindset of our Messiah!
Do not be conformed to the ways of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind! - Romans 12:2
