La Shone ha Qodesh | The Holy Language: Having the Mind of Messiah
by Alan Horvath
As pointed out in The Basics, in order to really know the Father's Word, there are two things we want to accomplish: To discover the original Aramaic/Hebrew words which present the key points of any verse(s) we are seeking a greater understanding of, and to develop an Aramaic/Hebrew mindset ... to know the mind of Messiah!
We have the mind of Messiah. - 1 Corinthians 2:16
Getting a grasp of the Eastern mindset and learning to adopt the mind of Messiah, is key! And that is something which can not be had through any English version of His Word ... nor through any other language for that matter. It can only be revealed to us through a study of His Word as it was originally penned and as it was originally intended to be understood.
East Is East ... West Is West
The Eastern way of thinking is absolutely antithetical to the Western way of thinking. The Eastern mindset focuses on concrete terms and on function ... whereas the Western mindset focuses on abstract terms and form or appearance. Here's a very simple and basic example of how a pencil is described:
The Eastern Mindset: It is something I write with.
The Western Mindset: It is a cylindrical object with a point at one end, and a pink rubber eraser at the other end.
It is quite easy to see how simple and direct the Eastern mindset is and how mystical and abstract the Western mindset can be.
Further, there is a very interesting thing that happens in the Word whenever we see passages about the east and passages about the west! References to the east will always point to the Father and His Way; of the Light ... whereas references to the west will always point to man going his own way; against the Father and into Darkness.
As far as east is from west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. - Psalm 103:12
The sun rises in the east and overwhelms the darkness, whereas the sun sets in the west and diminishes into darkness.
Genesis 3:24 - He placed Cherubim and a flaming sword at the east of the Garden of Eden to guard the way of the Tree of Life.
Matthew 2:1 - Wise men came to Jerusalem from the east, to worship the Messiah ... guided by His star, which was in the east.
Matthew 24:27 - For as the lightening comes from the east and shines to the west, so also shall the coming of the Son of Man be.
Daniel 8:5 - A male goat came from the west, over the surface of all the earth ... and the goat had a conspicuous horn between his eyes.
There is also a very interesting fact, concerning the New Testament books: They were originally written down in Aramaic/Hebrew and immediately translated into Greek, which was the predominant language of the time ... but the Aramaic/Hebrew texts traveled east where they were recently discovered in an Aramaic village, while the Greek texts traveled west.
